My Running Journal: 10K, Runner’s High and Late-Night Snack

It was raining earlier this evening so I decided to run at the gym. Armed with my favourite Thai songs, audio German lessons and Anthony Robbins’ audio book on my trusty little iPod, I stepped on the treadmill determined to reach 10 kilometers.

20141223-231142.jpgAnd ran a 10K I did! At mile 6, I felt a surge of energy and joy, throwing my fist in the air and running a happy dance for a few seconds (yes, it is possible to do that on a treadmill!). I was reaching my target and it felt just wonderful! I went on to clock 6.61 miles and actually felt like I could keep going but decided it was time to stop.

I look forward to doing a 10K outdoors and see if I can beat this round’s time.

After the run I did some weightlifting before heading home to shower. Understandably all the workout got me a little hungry despite my dinner, so I gave myself a little treat–a piping hot bowl of Maggi instant noodles in the all-time favourite Assam laksa flavour.

Lovely. And now I am ready for bed, and one day of work tomorrow before the Christmas holiday.

My Running Journal: 9.5 Flippin’ Km!!

As is obvious from the post title, I am feeling rather pleased with myself. Especially after the annoying defeat at last week’s relay, when I got overtaken by a man with a lot more wrinkles and grey hair than me, yet less in centimeters in terms of height. Arggh!! But this is for another post, so let’s get back to today’s milestone.

So that was it, today’s achievement — 6 miles in 61 minutes and 33 seconds. Granted it was an easy run on the treadmill, but it’s still an improvement from my previous 4 miles.

20141220-195514.jpgLast Sunday I tried sprinting a little during the relay and since then I couldn’t help but feel like my thighs have gone bulkier. So I have decided to focus on running for endurance without working my muscles too much. No more sprinting because I do not want to end up looking like the Incredible Hulk on the lower half of my body.

On my next training session, I will aim to run another 6 miles on an outdoor track or trail.

My Running Journal: Pounding the Grounds of Vivanta by Taj, Rebak Island

This morning’s weather was again sunny and gorgeous, and having been more accustomed to this resort I had a more 20141123-163212.jpgproper training. I covered some of the hiking trail (without going anywhere near the jungle) and ran to the marina, shipyard and then back, and then covered the part on the left of my unit. 20141123-122709.jpgI did the walk and run routine since running on real grounds outdoors was quite a different ball game from pounding the treadmill. My legs felt heavier and I got breathless faster. It could be the stunning sceneries around me, but I am not 20141123-122833.jpgsure. But according to the Nike running app I did 1.75 miles (around 2.8 km) in less than 22 minutes — not too bad for me. But I also felt the strain on my thighs after the run, perhaps this was because of parts of the track that were slightly uphill.

As usual, it was shower and then heading to the cafe for the buffet breakfast. I won’t bore you with food pictures again, but it was still a wonderful breakfast.

Next time I will have a more serious training yet by carbo loading before my run, and I will see what difference that makes to my stamina.

It’s time to check out soon and say goodbye to the lovely Vivanta by Taj Rebak Island Resort and Spa.
